Dogecoin Left in the Dust as New Meme Coins Dominate

Dogecoin Left in the Dust as New Meme Coins Dominate

Meme coins are seeing a mixed year in 2025, with big-name coins like Dogecoin showing modest gains while new players like SPX6900 and Fartcoin have surged to staggering heights. SPX6900 led the market with a 5,200% year-over-year gain, followed by Fartcoin with 4,300%, leaving even the most established meme tokens far behind.

Despite their origins as jokes, these tokens have captured investor attention through viral hype, limited supply, and influencer support—proving that humor-driven coins can still offer real returns. Meanwhile, Dogwifhat, Pudgy Penguins, FLOKI, and others faced heavy losses amid broader market volatility.

SPX6900 and Fartcoin Crushed Dogecoin by 200x in One-Year Gains

Meme coins may have started as jokes, but their explosive growth over the past years proves they are anything but trivial. While they remain high-risk assets primarily driven by social media hype and speculation rather than real-world utility, their potential for massive returns has captured investors’ attention, and that hasn’t changed in 2025.

Despite their shocking volatility, fueled by the crypto market slowdown in recent months, nearly half of the world’s largest meme coins by market cap have delivered impressive double- and triple-digit gains over the past year. Still, none of them are close to SPX6900 and Fartcoin, the absolute winners in the meme coin space.

Both coins started as an internet joke and became one of the most unexpected crypto success stories. Thanks to viral hype on platforms like X and TikTok and endorsements from high-profile influencers, SPX690 quickly propelled into the spotlight of the meme coin community. Its limited supply and community-fueled FOMO (fear of missing out) caused massive buying pressure. Since last May, its price has skyrocketed by more than 5,200%, bringing impressive gains to early investors.

Fartcoin, one of the most talked-about meme coins in 2025, is closely trailing SPX690. Launched in late 2024 on the Solana blockchain, the coin quickly gained traction due to its humorous branding and active online community. Despite significant volatility, including a peak at $2.61 in January followed by a sharp decline, Fartcoin still managed a massive 4,380% year-over-year gain.

Official TRUMP coin ranks third on this list, with a massive 905% return since its launch four months ago. Turbo, Popcat, and Brett follow, with 717%, 351%, and 76% year-over-year gains, respectively. Statistics show that the world’s largest meme coin by market cap, Dogecoin, delivered the smallest yearly increase of 24.6%, roughly 200 times less than the top two winners.

Dogwifhat, Pedgy Pinguins, and FLOKI Saw the Biggest Losses

Unlike these seven high-performing meme coins, several other major meme coins have suffered significant losses in 2025. Dogwifhat took the hardest hit, with its price plunging by 78% year-over-year, while Pudgy Penguins closely followed with a 75% drop.

Ape Coin and FLOKI were the next worst performers, down 56% and 50% respectively, while Shiba Inu, Bonk, and Pepe declined 40%, 21%, and 17% year-over-year.
