Eight-Year-Old Ravi Adelekan Organizes Mini-Soccer Aid to Support Brain Tumour Research

In November 2022, Ravi Adelekan, an inspiring eight-year-old, launched the Ravi’s Dream campaign with a cover version of ‘A Million Dreams’ accompanied by a star-studded video featuring musicians, athletes, and celebrities such as Hugh Jackman, Paloma Faith, Bastille, Metronomy, Coldplay, Mary Berry, De La Soul, footballer Leandro Trossard, Björn Ulvaeus (ABBA), and many more. Ravi’s goal is to raise £250,000, which will be split between The Brain Tumour Charity and brainstrust to support brain tumour research.

On June 11th, Worthing FC, a Vanarama Conference side, will host a day of football at their 3000-capacity stadium in support of Ravi’s Dream. The event will include a kids’ 7-a-side tournament followed by a mixed-gender adult match. Ravi’s ‘Dream Team’ will feature notable personalities such as Romy Madley Croft (The xx), Jimi Famurewa (Masterchef), Joe Mount (Metronomy), Seye Adelekan (Gorillaz), Michael Odewale (Comedian), Jamie Kenna (Coronation Street), Denai Moore (Musician), and Ola Labib (Comedian). They will face off against the community team Preston Park Panthers for a friendly match. Ravi himself, along with his Sunday League coach Toby Gosling as his assistant, will manage the team. It’s Ravi’s own version of Soccer Aid, showcasing his love for football.

Despite facing his own battle with a brain tumour, Ravi has been overwhelmed by the response to his campaign. To date, the initiative has raised over £78,000 and has garnered widespread attention. Ravi has shared his story on various platforms, including ITV’s This Morning, BBC Breakfast News, ITV Meridian News, The Adam Buxton Podcast, Lauren Laverne’s BBC 6Music show, and even graced the cover of The Week Junior magazine.

Ravi remains determined to achieve his £250,000 target, and the upcoming event on June 11th will be a significant step towards that goal.
